My learning experience is that in every exam that I take, I
should give my best even after knowing that I have secured a place for myself. Because
I don’t know when I may need that exam result that I took.
In year 2008, I took my ‘O’ level exam lightly knowing that
I have already secured a place in Polytechnic through Direct Poly Admission
(DPA). One of the criteria was that I had to obtain a L1R4 score of not more
than 26 points for my ‘O’ level examination. This criteria seems easy to be
achieved. Hence, I did not put in as much time and effort as I had when I
revised for my prelims. When the results came out, I was shocked to see that I
failed my Combined Humanities and I was so worried that I could not get into my
desired course in the Polytechnic. After checking with MOE, I realized that on
top of the 4 compulsory subjects, another subject that would be taken into
account would be either Add Maths or Combined Humanities. I felt a great sigh
of relieved after hearing this and I made a promise to myself that I would work
hard in Polytechnic so that I do not have to go through this kind of similar
torture again when I further my studies in University.
After I completed my studies in Polytechnic, I obtained a
diploma with Merit. However, I felt that this Merit does not serves its purpose
because I could not get into my desired course in the local University. I guess
it was because my ‘O’ level results pulled me down. Once again, this experience
taught me that I should give my best in every exam that I take and not to be
too over-confident of myself.
After waiting for one year, I tried to apply for
other courses and here I am, I managed to get into NUS, Project &
Facilities Management. Getting into NUS was not an easy journey for me. I will
cherish this opportunity that I have to be able to study in NUS and I will give
my 110% effort into every module that I take. I hope that I will be able to go
for Student Exchange Programme (SEP) and my ultimate goal is to obtain 1st
class Honours after I completed my four years study in NUS.
